Sugar factories & refineries: how FE by France Evaporation optimizes your thermal processes with Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR)? 🍭

FE by France Evaporation has established itself as a key player in the energy optimization of thermal processes, thanks in particular to its advanced mastery of Mechanical Vapor Recompression (MVR). This technology makes it possible to significantly reduce energy consumption while recovering the heat in the vapors produced during industrial processes.

FE’s expertise is particularly evident in sugar factories and refineries, where thermal energy requirements are high, especially for the sugar evaporation, concentration and cooking stages.

Back in 2014, FE by France Evaporation demonstrated the full potential of MVR by implementing a bold, high-performance installation: a line of 6 series-connected mechanical steam compressors.

This installation recompresses 20 tonnes of vapors per hour, from continuous bakes operating at a pressure of 0.2 bara and a temperature of 60°C. These vapors, previously considered as losses, are now recycled.

Thanks to the compression system, the steam is brought up to 1.4 bara and 109°C – sufficient pressure and temperature to be re-injected into other process stages, such as :

  • discontinuous baking,
  • continuous baking,
  • or VKT (Vapor Kinetic Technology) bakes, renowned for their energy efficiency.

This approach creates a virtuous thermal loop, limiting the use of fresh steam and reducing the site’s overall energy footprint.

The integration of MVR by FE offers several advantages:

  • Reducing primary energy consumption,
  • Lower operating costs,
  • Flexibility of use on various types of baked products,
